Abstract
An experimental method is described, the basis of which was given by O. Sesini1, for the determination of the forces acting on the yarn in the spinning balloon. The results of a series of tests performed with this method are described and discussed. From them it appears that, locally, the horizontal force acting on the thread in the direction normal to the radius ρ of the balloon may be sensibly different from the value of the air drag calculated from the formula R=bd ω2 ρ2. However, its global value along the whole thread is practically equal to , when the rail is in the low position. This result is used, in a following paper, for the determination of the balloon shape.
