Abstract
In Bufo marinu. the carotid arteries and carotid labyrinth have nerve endings resembling baroceptor endings as seen in the mammalian carotid sinus. In the amphibian, most endings occur in the outer layers of the media of the common and internal carotid arteries. A lesser number occur in the sub-capsular connective tissue of the carotid labyrinth. The nerve endings appear to be simplified forms of the baroceptive endings found in the mammalian carotid sinus. They terminate as rings, knobs, fine filaments and occasionally as flat expansions usually in association with elastic fibers or nonmuscular cells of the media.
