Abstract
We have studied the effects of the mesogenic core of nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) for polar anchoring energy and the surface order parameter on rubbed polyimide (PI) films. The order of polar anchoring energy for NLCs on rubbed PI films is 5CB>PCH5>CCH5. This order is the same for all rubbing strengths investigated. From the above results, we conclude that the polar anchoring energy strongly depends on the polarizability of the NLCs. The surface order parameter for NLCs is 5CB>PCH5>CCH5 on rubbed PI films which was imidized at 250°C. Finally, we suggest that the polar anchoring energy for NLCs on rubbed PI films is strongly related to the surface order parameter. Keywords
