Abstract
. We consider the discretization of obstacle problems for secondorder elliptic differential operators by piecewise linear finite elements. Assumingthat the discrete problems are reduced to a sequence of linear problemsby suitable active set strategies, the linear problems are solved iterativelyby preconditioned cg--iterations. The proposed preconditioners are treatedtheoretically as abstract additive Schwarz methods and are implemented astruncated hierarchical basis preconditioners. To...Keywords
