Abstract
A case is reported of extreme hypercholesteremia (4200 mg %) and hyperlipemia (12,500 mg %) with diabetes mellitus and acute pancreatitis in which rapid recovery from diabetic coma did not lower serum lipids significantly. Death occurred 74 hours later and autopsy showed only mild acute pancreatitis without fat emboli. Con-sidered to be "essential hyperlipemia", previous theories that recurrent fat emboli caused pancreatitis were not confirmed. Keywords
