Abstract
Summary (1) The morphology of the mouthparts and the pereiopods of Nephrops norvegicus is described, with particular reference to the setae. (2) Three basic types of setae were found to be present: simple, plumed and serrate setae. In addition to the more usual variations found amongst these, a wide range of different types of scales was found on the serrate setae. (3) Where possible the morphology of the appendages is related to function. The mouthparts, particularly the third maxillipeds, perform many functions apart from feeding, including cleaning, digging and respiration. (4) The possible developmental relationships of the various types of setae are discussed. Keywords
