Abstract
The metabolism of 4-14C-17β-3H-estradiol-17α and 16-14C-17α-3H-estradiol-17β by White New Zealand rabbits has been investigated. Complete retention of the 3H at the 17β position of 17α-estradiol and complete loss of the 3H from the 17β position of the 17α-estradiol were observed in the urinary 17α-estradiol. The results demonstrated the in vivo stability of 17α-estradiol and provided no evidence for the presence of a 17-hydroxy epimerase. 17α-Estradiol did not give rise to any urinary metabolites except conjugated 17α-estradiol.
