Abstract
We present a theoretical model for the optical activity of clathrates in the far infrared, based upon a Pöschl-Teller potential fit to the intermolecular guest-host potential. Experimental comparisons of the absorption coefficient and predictions of the third-order susceptibility for frequency tripling are made for the argon clathrate. Keywords
