Blood lipids in experimental cardiac necrosis

Abstract
Infarctoid necroses were observed in combination with elevated serum free fatty acids, triglycerides, cholesterol, and total lipids in the Electrolyte-Steroid-Cardiopathy with Necrosis (ESCN) when the latter was aggravated by the oral administration of corn oil. Although treatment with amiloride, a potassium-sparing agent, inhibited the development of cardiac lesions, it did not normalize the blood lipids. It is concluded that, in the ESCN, lipids have a cardiotoxic effect only in conjunction with electrolyte disturbances.
