Abstract
The medical and dental graduation ceremony at the University of Glasgow in July 2003 marked not only the 300th anniversary of the first Glasgow medical graduation, but also the first major revision of the graduation oath. This paper records the process, and explains the reasons, behind the revision of the oath and the introduction of a new graduation declaration. The new declaration provides continuity with the past, while addressing current and future challenges for professionalism in medicine. Keywords
