Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A nineteen-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital because of diarrhea.For the eight years preceding admission the patient had numerous bowel movements, averaging 8 to 10 during the day and 3 to 5 at night, accompanied by urgency and tenesmus. The stools were usually loose, light brown and particulate. Occasionally they were watery; they sometimes contained blood and sometimes fragments of undigested food. The diarrhea was made worse by emotional factors and by exercise. He had been treated with iron, arsenic and tonics with no change in the symptoms. He had not followed . . .
