Abstract
Oxygen diffusion currents measured along transects extending from Agrostis-Festuca-Pteridium vegetation through Molinia-Nardus to Juncetum acutiflori varied in the manner to be expected from inspection of the sites and vegetation. Pteridium is unable to invade the Molinia-Nardus zone, notwithstanding a high aeration status. Estimation of oxygen diffusion rates in the soils of small colonies of Pteridium occurring in Juncetum acutiflori confirmed the writer''s earlier suggestion that the fern survives at such points owing to aeration conditions being superior to those of the surrounding marsh. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
