PHYSIOLOGIC STASIS OF ROENTGENOGRAPHIC CONTRAST MATERIAL AT THE CAROTID ARTERY BIFURCATION: POSSIBLE RELATION TO ATHEROMA LOCALIZATION

Abstract
A disturbance of blood flow can be identified along the posterior wall of the internal carotid artery just beyond its bifurcation in a high percentage of patients undergoing right retrograde brachial arteriography. This has been observed at all ages above 14 years. A relationship to a theory of atheromatous plaque formation has been suggested.
