Goal setting and self-management training were contracted for their effectiveness in facilitating training transfer to a novel task. Transfer was assessed in terms of effort expenditure, skill generalization, and overall performance. Goal setting trainees expended greater effort. However, self-management trainees showed greater skill generalization and overall performance.
