Abstract
This weed is present in Britain as ssp. eualbum (Ludwig) Aell., in-cluding a variant with reticulate testa markings. This with a color difference represents a seed polymorphism. Innate dormancy of the seed may be broken by cold treatment and N radicals. Differences were found in the requirements for germination of the seed types. Edaphically the sp. is very tolerant, although less common on calcareous soils. Distributional data is given and growth in sand culture at 3 levels of Ca, 3 of NO3, and 4 of P are described. C. album exhibits great plasticity in morphology. It competes strongly with other plants due to its rapid elongation and effective trapping of light. Thirty-three insects, 3 nematodes, and 15 fungi are listed associated with Chenopodium. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
