Formation of chromium atoms in air-acetylene flames. Part II. Effect of matrix electrolytes

Abstract
A study of the formation of chromium atoms in air-acetylene flames from chromium(VI) solutions in the presence of matrix electrolytes indicates that there are at least two major causes for the observed differences in atom formation behaviour. In the presence of low concentrations of matrix electrolytes, differences in the rate of atom formation are related to the identity of, and subsequent thermal behaviour of, the dichromate salt formed on desolvation. At higher concentrations of matrix electrolyte the disposition of the chromium compound in the solid matrix and the thermal decomposition of the matrix assume importance.
