Abstract
Of 148 birds of 20 spp. examined, 15 (10.2%) harbored 1 or more parasites. Haemoproteus fringillae was identified in Prunella modularis, Sylvia atricapilla and Fringilla coelebs; H. majoris in Parus major. In Pica pica the level of parasitemia was too low for specific identification and the infection could have been of either Haemoproteus or Plasmodium, although the former is more likely. Leucocytozoon majoris was found in Parus major and P. caeruleus. The hemogregarines in the Paridae were all of the Hepatazoon type. Trypanosoma cotylei was found in Riparia riparia. No parasites were seen in 401 Manx Shearwater (Puffinus puffinus). This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
