Abstract
m-Sulphophenylphosphonic acid (2) is a high-temperature-melting (164 °C) and stable solid which has been synthesized from phenylphosphonic acid (1) and sulphur trioxide in the absence of solvent. Fractional precipitation of barium salts followed by ion exchange is a suitable procedure to isolate (2) from the reaction medium. The product has been characterized by i.r. and 31P, 1H, and 13C n.m.r. spectroscopy. Keywords
