Abstract
Study of the melting process in rapid melting of spin-polarized 3He reveals that the liquid's magnetic susceptibility is enhanced at moderate temperatures (above 30 mK) and moderate polarization (20–40%) but declines at higher polarization. The first transport measurement on the enhanced polarized liquid shows anomalous behavior. Together, these measurements favor a microscopic model in which, at moderate temperatures and as a function of polarization, the liquid approaches but does not achieve a new phase. Keywords
