Abstract
Mizota (1) describes the clay mineralogy of a Dystrandept (Papakauri) and a Haplaquod (One Tree Point) from Northland, New Zealand using four samples collected on a field tour at the Soils with Variable Charge 1981 Conference. His results for crystalline clays are similar to ours using routine methods (2). However, Mizota's conclusions about non-crystalline clays, are open to debate. In particular, his statements that “hydrous alumina” and “allophane-like constituents” are present, rather than allophane, can be questioned. Keywords
