Instructional Computing Patterns in Texas Schools: Implications for Teacher Training

Abstract
A survey of 200 Texas school districts that were using computers for instruction was conducted in the spring of 1983. The survey investigated a wide variety of instructional patterns ranging from courseware selection to teacher training. The selected findings in this article relate only to those patterns which have implications for teacher training. These patterns include student populations, grade levels, and curriculum areas that are using computers, instructional applications of computers across grade spans, student computer literacy skills, and teacher training in computer use. The results of the survey indicate that the pattern of computer use is different for each grade, therefore, the researchers suggest that teacher training must be tailored to these differences.
