Alphabet Discrimination and Distinctive Features

Abstract
The experimental literature relating to alphabet letter discrimination is reviewed. An analysis in terms of the critical distinctive features of the letter forms and problems in attending to the dimensions of difference are explored in detail. It ws suggested that in order to best facilitate discrimination of letters, pretraining on the critical distinctive features should be provided. Specific techniques for programming the distinctive feature discriminations are presented
