Abstract
A distorted-wave formulation with exchange is given for the electron-impact excitation of atoms from to configurations using the -coupling scheme. Phenomenologically determined independent-particle models and distorted-wave potentials are utilized to compute angular distributions and integrated cross sections for , and excitations of atomic oxygen over wide ranges of energy and momentum transfer. The results are compared with the Born-approximation limit as well as the experimental integrated cross section of Stone and Zipf.
