Abstract
A microsporidian disease of the potato tuberworm (Gnorimoschema operculella (Zeller), which also appeared in Macrocentrus ancylivorus Roh. bred from tuberworms, was reported by Allen and Brunson (1945). R. R. Kudo, of the University of Illinois, determined the organism causing the disease to be a species of Nosema. Steinhaus and Hughes (1949) described Nosema destructor, which appeared in laboratory- reared potato tuberworms in California, and added considerable information on its life cycle and physiology. Steinhaus compared the California Nosema with the Nosema studied at Moorestown, New Jersey, and considered them probably the same species. Another microsporidian in the tuberworm, described by Steinhaus and Hughes as Plistophora californica, has not yet been encountered at Moorestown. Only one species, which seems to be N. destructor, has been found there. Keywords
