Abstract
Dog exocrine pancreas after the administration of some chemicals, such as alloxan, dehydroascorbic acid and pilocarpine were examined by electron microscopy. Zymogen granules were remarkably decreased in number. The endoplasmic reticulum was fragmented into small vesicles. The Golgi apparatus was usually hypertrophied, but some cells contained an atrophied Golgi apparatus and intracisternal granules. Other cytoplasmic inclusions such as autophagic vacuoles, degenerated huge mitochondria, fat droplets, glycogen particles and complex dense bodies were observed. Most of the complex dense bodies had filamentous or tubular crystalloids. The acid phosphatase activity was detected in these dense bodies, and the origin and fate of the bodies were discussed.
