Abstract
The gonia have 13 chromosomes in the haploid [male][male] and 26 in the diploid [female][female]. The 1st spermatocyte division is characterized by the pinching off of a non-nucleated cytoplasmic bud. Simultaneously a monopolar spindle is regularly formed. The chromosomes exhibit pronounced anaphasic movement, independent of the spindle fibers. An abbreviated interkinesis intervenes between the 1st and 2d spermatocyte divisions, without the formation of a nuclear membrane. The bipolar spindle of the 2d spermatocyte and the monopolar spindle of the 1st spermatocyte appear to be formed as outgrowths of chromosome material. The 2d spermatocyte division may be equal, producing 2 normal spermatids. Not infrequently aberrant spermatids are formed by the secondary fusing of the parts of a partially divided 2d spermatocyte. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
