Tests of Some Antibiotics and Other Chemosterilants on the Green Peach Aphid

Abstract
In tests of several antibiotics on the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), reproduction (viviparous) was significantly inhibited in various degrees by cytovirin, cycloheximide, antimycin A, actinomycin D, pactamycin, hygromycin B, ampicillin trihydrate, vancomycin, fungichromin, and some other chemicals. In tests of a group of synthetic materials, 2-thiouracil and apholate caused some inhibition. Of these materials, the autibiotics novobiocin and anthelmycin werc notably toxic to the aphids.
