Abstract
A model for the average tip temperatures during the cathode and anode half cycles of a HID mercury lamp is discussed. The input parameters are the current, the thermionic work function and the thermal resistance of the electrode from the tip to the wall. The model is compared to electrical and thermal measurements on a 50 Watt mercury lamp. Keywords
