One‐dimensional anion vacancy diffusion in the calcium apatites

Abstract
Correlated random walk statistics are used to derive an expression for the diffusion coefficient for vacancies in a linear chain containing impurities. The results are applied to the problem of anion mobility in the calcium apatites. For fluorapatite the analysis indicates energies of motion for fluorine and oxygen ions to be 0.77 and 2.0 eV, respectively.
