Abstract
Laboratory studies of Nabis americoferus Carayon and Nabis roseipennis Reuter demonstrated similarities in their potential as predators of the green cloverworm, Plathypena scabra (F.). Stages of the green cloverworm acceptable as prey were found to vary by stage of nabid. First-instar nabids fed on eggs and 1st-instar larvae; 2nd- and 3rd-instar nabids preyed on eggs and 1st- and 2nd-instar larvae; 4th-instar nabids fed on eggs to 3rd-instar larvae; and 5th-instar and adult nabids were able to consume all stages from eggs to 4th-instar larvae. Consumption rates ranged from one egg or one 1st-instar larva per day for 1st-instar nymphs to as many as 12 to 26 eggs or 1st-instar larvae for 5th instars and adults. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
