Abstract
Chlorothiazide, sulfamethoxy-pyridiazine and diazoxide were given intravenously to nephrectomized rats and dogs. In the subsequent 2 hours the effects of these drugs on plasma potassium, sodium, bicarbonate, total carbon dioxide content, pH, PCO2, buffer base or hematocrit did not differ from that of 5% glucose solution alone. No acute extrarenal action of chlorothiazide on plasma electrolytes or acid-base balance was evident. Keywords
