Management of Patient Continence in Long-Term Care Nursing Facilities

Abstract
Ninety-one urinary incontinent nursing home patients who responded to a 1-hour prompted voiding toileting program were gradually moved to a 2-hour program without a significant change in either continence or appropriate toileting levels. The nursing staffs were given experiential training and written recommendations describing the patients' required toileting schedules. Foliow-up data from 2 and 6 weeks after initial patient treatment documents that nursing staffs did not maintain the 2-hour program.
