Abstract
Cross-bred Bos taurus calves, aged 6-8 mo., were inoculated with the Onderstepoort A. centrale live blood vaccine. One group of 15 calves was inoculated once only; a 2nd group of 15 was revaccinated 6 mo. later. All animals were challenged with .apprx. 1 .times. 1010 A. marginale parasites of a known virulent strain 8 mo. after the 1st vaccination. The results of blood smear examination and the card agglutination test indicated that only 20 of 30 animals vaccinated contracted A. centrale infection after the 1st attempt, and 3 of 5 after the 2nd. The vaccine conferred only partial immunity to challenge with a virulent A. marginale strain. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
