Abstract
Clinical and morphological experimental data are presented concerning the development and final extent of inner-ear damage after acute noise exposure. Possible means of influencing the course of hair-cell degeneration and the theoretical and practical relevance of the findings are discussed. The results suggest modifications of the accepted concept of the pathogenesis of acute acoustic trauma. Keywords
