Abstract
The chlorine K absorption spectra from MgCl2⋅6H2O and SrCl2⋅6H2O have been measured with a 50 cm bent crystal spectrograph. Results are evaluated by comparing the spectra with the chlorine K absorption spectra of MgCl2 and SrCl2 reported previously. A significant change has been found between the spectra of the hydrated and anhydrous dichlorides: The absorption fine structures of the former are remarkably smoothed out. It is illustrated that the change is due to the water molecules. A tentative explanation is also made for the first absorption peak of the spectra of MgCl2 and SrCl2.Keywords
