Abstract
Using a method due to Bromwich the diffraction of a dipole field by a perfectly conducting half-plane may be expressed in terms of the known solutions of a scalar problem, but only for a dipole whose axis lies parallel to the diffracting edge. An alternative method is developed which is valid' for all positions of the dipole and based on the resolution of the dipole field into plane waves whose diffraction by the sheet may be independently studied. The particular case considered is that of an electric dipole with its axis normal to the half-plane.
