Measurements of the Spin Alignment viaγRecoil

The spin alignment of excited states which decay in flight by $\gamma$ emission can be determined by measuring the line shape of the corresponding peak in the energy spectrum of the outgoing particle. The linewidth is broadened by the $\gamma$ recoil and the shape is characteristic for different $m$ substates.
