Signals of top quarks with charged-Higgs-boson decay atpp¯colliders

Abstract
If the top quark decays dominantly via a charged Higgs boson tbH+, as occurs if mt<MW+mb and mH±<mtmb, the conventional top-quark signals at pp¯ colliders (based on tbW* charged-current decays) are suppressed. Distinctive new signals appear, based on H+τ¯ν decays; they include events with large missing pT, events with isolated τ jets or leptons plus hadronic jets, and events with two isolated τ jets. We calculate typical cross sections and distributions for the Fermilab Tevatron pp¯ collider; the results are sensitive to the Hτν branching fraction, that may well be large.
