Radiographic Changes in the Temporomandibular Joint in Ankylosing Spondylitis

Abstract
Ninety individuals with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and 44 individuals in a comparison group were examined regarding radiographic changes of the condyle in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) using rotational panoramic radiography. It was concluded that individuals with AS had a higher frequency of radiographic changes in the condyle than individuals without this disease. The radiographic findings in the TMJ, especially the cortical erosions, were found to be correlated to both mediotrusion side interferences of occlusion and the extension of the AS.
