Abstract
Barriers to access to health care frequently overshadow the opportunities for improvement through managed care, especially regarding children with special health care needs. This statement discusses such opportunities, identifies challenges, and proposes active roles for pediatricians, and families of patients to improve some aspects of managed care for children with special health care needs. Keywords
