Abstract
The effect of a non-ionic polyoxyethylene surfactant upon the fungicidal activity of benzoic acid has been investigated by a viable count method. The results show that theories equating antimicrobial activity to the concentration of non-micellar preservative are inadequate. The significance of these findings is discussed and some possible additional factors involved in the fungicidal process indicated. Keywords
