Abstract
The modelling of the arrest of high-speed projectiles by orthogonally woven cloth and nets is obtained by using a variational principle. The resulting engineering approximation is used to investigate the effect of different impact velocities and pre-strains. The significant parameters are then absorbed into a non-dimensional grouping. The model uses previously deducible front kinematics and suggests a similarity variable. Some experimental values are also included. Keywords
