Abstract
A general expression for the critical coupling (in terms of the particle masses which constitute the three-particle system) is derived at which isosceles symmetry breaks down. Application of the ideas to the muon-mesic molecules as well as to the positronium and hydrogenic negative ions is considered. Keywords
