Abstract
We discuss the problems and partial solutions to developing simulation models over time (a process we term “simulation model engineering”). Simulation models are developed over a long period of time, and different disciplines tend to use different modeling and analysis methods as they refine their models. Many of the solutions to constructing or engineering models involve specific paradigms; however, we have determined that the user requires a more flexible, integrated system that aids him in the process of model construction. We propose an information retrieval system containing an embedded expert system that serves to both guide and advise the user as to which modeling methods are available and appropriate for his task. First, we discuss related areas of interest to model engineering, then we outline issues and problems existing in the area and finally we propose a solution involving an integrated approach where various familiar modeling methods, and not a single paradigm, may be utilized. Keywords
