Organic Iodine-131 Compounds Released from a Nuclear Fuel Chemical Processing Plant

Abstract
Organic radioiodine compounds present in the gaseous effluent from Hanford's Purex Plant for nuclear fuel processing have been fractionated by gas chromatography and measured by gamma-ray spectroscopy. Analysis of the effluent for organic iodine-131 showed a complex mixture of compounds with boiling ranges of 40°C through 255°C; the lower boiling compounds were identified as alkyl iodides.
