Abstract
The paper describes an experimental investigation of the mechanical stiffness of bovine and human articular cartilage in a compression test which allows strain and fluid flow only in the direction of loading. The creep behaviour is in accord with earlier reports in the literature, but the dynamic response to oscillating loading is almost linear/elastic, and can be described by an elastic modulus which is much higher than most of the previously reported values. Keywords
