Sound velocity in helium-filled porous Vycor glass

Abstract
The velocity of longitudinal and transverse sound in helium-filled porous Vycor glass was measured and analyzed with the use of the Biot theory of sound propagation in fluid-filled porous media. From transverse wave velocities, the superfluid fraction was determined and, from longitudinal velocities, the elastic properties of the helium were determined.Keywords
