Abstract
BY NEURODERMATITIC reaction we mean a pathologic process, and not a disease. The term is used because the microscopic changes in this process are similar to those found in the disease neurodermatitis. The reaction is characteristic of such dermatoses as neurodermatitis, nummular eczema and exudative lichenoid and discoid chronic dermatosis. It is often difficult clinically to diagnose these dermatoses and to differentiate others from them. A microscopic diagnosis would be of considerable assistance, but, unfortunately, this is not always conclusive. The subject is of sufficient importance to stimulate further study. This presentation may suggest a somewhat different point of view as a basis for new investigations. The neurodermatitic reaction involves both the cutis and the epidermis.
