Abstract
Statistical analysis indicates that the increased mutation rate is due to a dominant "Mutator" gene probably located on the 2d chromosome. When heterozygous the rate is increased approx. 34 times, when homozygous approx. 70 times, indicating a linear increase with dosage of Mutator gene. Mutations occur without preference at any time during the development of both germ and somatic lines. Only "visible" sex-linked recessives were used as indicators, of which approx. 2,000 were observed.
