NAC-60 SST Navigation and Traffic Control

Abstract
There are numerous aspects and approaches to the solution of the navigation and air traffic control problems involved in the successful and economic operation of a supersonic transport. This paper presents in a general way those problems and suggested solutions which are considered to be most important and timely with respect to SST navigation and their relationship to the navigation and air traffic control equipment proposed by NAA for the NAC-60 Supersonic Transport. A brief description of the aircraft configuration and its dynamic capabilities is given. The primary flight and navigation displays and controls are described. A typical SST flight is discussed with respect to climbout, cruise, position reporting, en route separation, diversion to alternate destination, and landing approach.
